Red Productions Company claimed a hat-trick of gongs at the Royal Television Society North West Awards for its hit drama Last Tango in Halifax.
The BBC One series, which returned for a second series last week, picked up the best scriptwriter prize for Sally Wainwright, best performance for Anne Reid and best drama series for Red.
Other strong performances for MediaCityUK-based companies included Granada Reports, which was recognised for Hillsborough the Truth at Last in both the best regional news programme and best regional story categories.
For the BBC, North West Tonight reporter and presenter Jayne McCubbin took home the best regional onscreen talent prize, while the BBC also won awards for CBeebies’ Old Jack’s Boat, Sports Personality of the Year 2012, Blue Peter live in Leeds, BBC One’s Citizen Khan, BBC2′s Racing Legends: Stirling Moss and BBC Three’s Licence to Kill.
The broadcaster was also acknowledged for its own Hillsborough coverage, for its BBC2 documentary Never Forgotten.
Julie Hesmondhalgh, for ITV, won in the best performance category for Coronation Street and ITV Studios’ Emmerdale was named best entertainment programme, while Timeline Television North triumphed in the best post production (craft) category for Sports Personality of the Year.
