The Landing will tomorrow host the first ever GameDevNorth event in the region, which will also see the launch of a Manchester and Salford gaming community called GamesHub.
Taking place at On The 7th, The Landing’s media lounge, the event will serve as an opportunity to socialise with developers, publishers and games technology companies from the Greater Manchester gaming network.
GamesHub is a concept developed by Jon Parker, head of digital at The Landing-based SPACE Interactive Media Labs.
He said: “GamesDevNorth has a growing community of independent games developers across the UK predominately based in Leeds, Liverpool and Birmingham.
“I thought it would be a smart move to extend its reach and grow the games community in collaboration with GamesHub in Manchester and Salford. The Landing is the obvious venue, because it’s a very strong emerging digital and games cluster.”
Mike Delves, CEO of digital entertainment company Yippee Entertainment, is behind the idea.
He said: “MediaCityUK is a great place to be for game development. The Interactive Media Labs at The Landing offer world-class facilities enabling us to focus test our games prior to release, ensuring that our goals are met. This approach gives Yippee Entertainment and our clients the necessary edge when competing on a global stage.
“To have a gaming community based in the same building will present great added value to the support and community that we are already tapping into at The Landing.”
